Electromechanical Engineering Technology

The Electromechanical Engineering Technology curriculum provides a solid technical base in engineering science fundamentals and provides competency in automation, controls, motion mechanics, solid mechanics, fluid power, electrical systems, electronics and computer integrated systems. In the more advanced classes students will focus on automation and data systems, with design and control, quality and management systems and industrial/business information technology systems.

The Electromechanical Engineering Technology (EMT) program was specifically designed to meet the demanding requirements of world class automated manufacturing and process industries. The program introduces and develops proficiency in:

  • System Integration

  • Automation Solutions

  • Quality Systems and Data Acquisition

  • Industrial Data and Control Networks

  • Product and Systems Management

  • Technical and Quality Documentation

  • Customer and Product Service

Career Outlook

The career outlook for EMT graduates is very bright. Because of the wide range of interests and capabilities, electromechanical engineering technologists are in high demand, with excellent opportunities for career advancements. One of the strengths of the EMT program is the diverse curriculum, which provides graduates with a wide variety of technical and management skills and problem-solving techniques both in the electrical and mechanical fields. This diversity, along with a high demand for EMT technologists, allows a number of career paths with excellent starting salaries. Career opportunities and positions include:

Student Activities

Electromechanical Engineering Technology (EMT) students may be involved in the student chapter of the International Society of Automation (ISA). This organization meets on a regular basis, participates in national student engineering competitions and tours regional industry.
